Renewable Energy World reports of a billed filed recently in the Florida legislature seeking to create a pilot program in which to study the role of solar and battery storage in disaster resiliency. If passed, this bill would allocate funds to the Dept of Agriculture and Consumer Services to award for study purposes. After the impact of both hurricanes this year, now is the time to determine the best mix of renewable resources and at which level provides the most benefit in aiding area resiliency. Local fire, police, and communication services need off-grid alternatives during these critical service times. Residential customers looking for a safe, non-fuel, cost effective alternative could benefit from the study by enabling renewable developers to educate and demonstrate the value of solar and storage during a disaster event.
