What is the range of system costs?

Residential systems, fully integrated storage systems range from $8,000-$28,000. In-house design for custom applications including value stacking with existing energy production variables or special needs range from $14,000 to $45,000 depending on interface and storage capacity.

Commercial and industrial systems, split and three-phase, range from $26,000 to over $100,000 depending on design components, capacity, resource programs and scalability.

What is the physical size of a typical system?

Most of the fully integrated residential systems are the size of a small dishwasher but only about 12" in depth. These are ideally suited for garage or storage room areas though some offer IP ratings for outdoor installation.

Commercial and industrial systems range from a file cabinet size to a several feet in length and height. The largest systems are designed and housed in a 20' shipping container pre-packaged for high-voltage interconnect.

How does this cost compare to Solar?

It can be hard to compare solar and energy storage because unlike solar, batteries do not create their own energy. One case where these can be compared is in providing energy arbitrage. Solar owners can sell back solar energy production to the grid at a "net meter" price. This practice is under contention and many states are abandoning or reducing return for solar owners through the net meter program. Battery storage owners can mimic net metering without regulation or restriction. This is achieved by storing energy for use at a later time when higher energy rates are in effect or to reduce peak consumption. Solar owners can add an energy storage system to supercharge their returns and gain the ability to use their own power if disconnected to the grid.

How do I use the system?

The systems we offer come complete with award-winning software that takes the guess-work and complication out of managing your energy storage. Upon install, we program the system for the intended use and monitor it remotely to ensure proper performance. There are no buttons to push or maintenance to worry about. Each system has a secure application in which you can log in to see how much money you are saving. It can also provide current charge/discharge rates and give a forecast schedule of usage.

What is the lifespan of a unit?

Batteries
We offer the latest in Lithium-Ion, Lithium-Iron and other Lithium based batteries. These types are known for high energy density, high depth-of-discharge rates, and extensive life cycling. These qualities allow most manufacturers to offer warranties of 10 years or greater with a guaranteed 70% capacity factor after 10 years. This translates into a potential for a 30 year total life span and an expected 20 year capability with just under 50% remaining performance capacity. Manufacturers include several redundant battery management and safety components on each cell ensuring the greatest safety and life cycle possible.

Our Outback Power Systems batteries use the latest in Nano-Carbon technology to increase partial-state-of-charge efficiency, battery capacity, and deep discharge capacity. A 40% lifecycle improvement has been shown by Outback using this technology over traditional lead-acid batteries.

Inverters, Charge Controllers, Hardware
All of our systems use industry recognized components that have been serving the solar industry for decades. These companies have thousands of units in the field, offer comprehensive warranties, and are recognized for their track record of safety and low-failure rates. As a result, most companies are able to offer 10-20 year warranties on their equipment.
